Some Quirky moments

So since I have been video blogging I have not done as much typing into my blog...so here are a few funny quirks/moments on this interesting trip I am having...

Electrical Sockets: So everyone knows that you need an adapter or a converter or both in international countries. Well what happens when you use them both for a hairdryer and you blow out the entire apartment! NO...it was not me that did that, but I was here when everything went down! Hahaha. Ironically the night before I used my flat iron with the converter and adapter and blew out the bathroom plug and my flatiron...but not the whole apartment! Hahaha.

Taxi Drivers: OMG...this place is Mexico meets NYC on crack! You seriously give your life to these taxi drivers! Not only do they not follow the lines in the street or the lights above or other vehicles are in the way...but all vehicles drive this way! I love it when it is Taxi vs. bus and the taxi wins...narrowly! And then let's talk about the communication barriers. So Nee How is the only thing we have in common with the drivers! Thank goodness that we have addresses in Chinese on everything we have from the IOC! One of the smartest things they could have done for all the tourists! Now all we do is point to an address!

Fish eggs in Fried Rice????: Can we say GRRR on this one? I mean GEEZ...I was seriously trying to be safe with what I ordered. And to top it off someone had ordered it before there (the day before) and said it was pretty basic. But low and behold, when you looked into the rice, there they were....FISH EGGS. REALLY? You could not taste them...but YUCK. So Cheri, there ya go. That is my only CRAZY food story you will get from me! AND then there was the bathroom in this restaurant! Um...can we say female butts and legs attached to the sink???? Oh we all had to take pics of this one!

And trust me...there are more of these quirky moments to come!

Day two in Beijing

So here is my video blog from Beijing....if it is not working for you, please go to my volleyball.com blog.

Here are a few other things I wanted to blog about...the Opening Ceremonies.... AMAZING!In my opinion, this was one of he best opening ceremonies ever! The choreography to the fireworks to the music to the visual effects... Wow. My two fave things from the show were the large moving picture scroll that was on the ground and the big ball that had action shots of the games that eventually became the world (and had the two singers on it). Another cool thing was seeing all the NEW COUNTRIES! Who knew that so many new countries have been formed! Anyways, China did an amazing show...amazing!

So Proud of the Goldies

This shot was taken at the Huntington Beach AVP when I took the Goldies over to a few courts to watch the pro's practice. This court had Angela Lewis (a Mizuno coach too) and Priscilla Lima practicing on it. After that shot was taken we ventured over to watch EY, Nicole, and Liz practice. What was WAY cool was they stopped and sad hi to my girls (in the middle of practice AND after I made sure the girls were quiet and just watched). And that is the AVP stars for you. LOVE IT.

Anyways, can I just gush for a moment? So this past weekend we (12-Gold) played in our last mandatory of the season (we have one more tourney left...sniff sniff)and I can honestly say that I have never been so PROUD of a team's accomplishment (and for all my former player's...I enjoyed coaching y'all too)! My 12 year old's overcame a HUGE mental (not physical) challenge in the last match of the day. We only had 7 players (since 2 called that morning and were sick) for the day. To get a 12's team to overcome anything is a feat in itself...so this was AWESOME for me to watch play out. And as a result, we won our pool and WOULD have moved into division 4 (my initial goal for the season) if we had another mandatory scheduled. :) So Proud....

A Recent Memory...

So after driving to Downtown Long Beach along the shoreline, I realized HOW MUCH I LOVE MY HOMETOWN...and how much internal strength I truely have (and miss seeing sometimes) as a result of my past in this fabulous city. Being from Long Beach is so unique and gratifying, but you can forget that when in the normal day to day life.

And can we just talk about my last few weeks? From the D4K Dinner with the Stars that had so many names in attendance (which rocked), to the Huntington Beach AVP last weekend, to SEEING RUSH LIVE IN CONCERT!!! Holy Frijoles....AMAZING. If anyone has a choice of venues to see a concert....SEE THE CONCERT AT THE NOKIA THEATER. The acoustics there are amazing....and SO WAS RUSH. I heard my Ghost of a Chance and Witchhunt...oh yea....

D4K starts the 08 Spring Session

So, it is that time again! The start of a new session D4K in Carson, CA. This spring should be another record setting session. With more and more kids getting involved to more athletes/programs being introduced to the kids, this will be a Spring to remember. A Special thank you is needed to those volunteering their time this spring, which includes the Carson Volleyball Programs and the CSUDH Women's Volleyball Team.
